Starting Feb. 12: Chestnut Avenue will remain closed to traffic moving between Shaw and Barstow Avenues. This is due to expansion work to expand the road from two to four lanes according to the university’s official Web site fresnostatenews.com. The university also announced that Parking Lot V, located west of the Save Mart Center, will also be closed for upgrading this spring. Wednesday Feb. 28: Wellness Ambassadors, student peer educators organized by Wellness Services, will host an Exercise Fair on Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center. Monday Feb. 26: the Save Mart Center north lot will be closed to general parking due to an event that evening. Students who have class on the east side of campus are encouraged to use Maple Avenue to access Lots A and J. Barstow Avenue will become one way westbound between Willow and Woodrow Avenues beginning at 3:30 p.m.University Police Department Traffic Operations Officers and signage will be posted as necessary. March 2: DOG DAYS is looking for outgoing students who like to meet new people and have fun while working. Orientation leaders work during summer orientation to help new students get acclimated to the campus. You get to meet thousands of new students and get paid to socialize. You’ll get free lunch during orientation and get priority registration for the spring 2008 semester. Applications are available outside Joyal Administration room 224. Applications are due March 2nd.

Feb. 27: As part of the University Lecture Series, Sephen Dubner, Freakonomics co-author will be speaking at the Satellite Student Union Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. Dubner’s Freakonomics is an international bestseller, published in May 2005, Freakonomics instantly became a cultural phenomenon and has been on The New York Times Bestseller List for more than one year. Feb. 23: The film chronicles life in Ethiopia and the tumultuous events following years of war and revolution, especially its impact on women. Jackson spent a year in Ethiopia, researching, interviewing, and filming, under extraordinary conditions. Surviving Abyssinia was named Best Documentary Film at the Hollywood Black Film Festival 2000. Post-screening discussion by Dr. Elizabeth Jackson, film director, TV and video producer and professor from CSU, Bakersfield. 5:15 p.m. on Fridays. All films will be shown in McLane. Room 121.

The event will be held next Friday at the Satellite Student Union from 5 to 9 p.m. The theme of the event is highlighting the cultural diversity among Africana people in Fresno State and the surrounding community from slavery to freedom. The event is expected to feature: Hip Hop Dance, traditional African dances, fashion show, Caribbean storytelling, poetry among other events.

Friday Feb.16: McLane Hall Room 121 from 5:15 p.m. China Blue is a powerful film looking into the harsh world of sweatshop workers. Shot clandestinely, this is a deep-access account of what both China and the international retailers don’t want us to see: how the clothes we buy are actually made. Following a pair of denim jeans from birth to sale, China Blue links the power of the U.S. consumer market to the daily lives of a Chinese factory owner and two teenaged female factory workers.
