Bruins hibernate while the Bulldogs roll…

48293423-667b-4674-895e-fd69000873b5.jpgIn yet another sensational performance, the Bulldogs marched into the Rose Bowl and accomplished something that has not been done since 1983.  They became the first non BCS team to beat the Bruins at home since BYU. In a game that featured electrifying plays and emotional highs and lows, Tom Brandstater, Ryan Matthews, and Bear Pascoe led the team to a 36-31 victory.

Tom Brandstater threw for three touchdowns, highlighted by  a four yard strike to Pascoe capping a remarkable two-minute drill at the end of the first half. Ryan Matthews added 166 yards to his sophomore campaign including a Reggie Bush-like score as he leapt over a defender on his way to the endzone (see picture). He also had one rushing touchdown.

The defense provided its own highlights as well. Despite missing two starters on the line the Bulldogs were able to hold UCLA’s touted running back Kahlil Bell to 73 yards (he missed the last two games due to injury). In a critical fourth down the Bulldogs were able to come up with a stop that lead to Brandstater’s two-minute drive at the end of the first half. Moses Harris recorded a sack and Wilson Ramos put the game away when he recovered a fumble by UCLA freshman Derrick Coleman.

The Bulldogs are now 3 and 1 after an intense non-conference schedule. They return to Bulldog stadium on October 4th against Hawaii. Go Dogs!

The close call against Toledo

2310518jpeg.jpgFor those of you who missed the stressful game this past weekend, the Bulldog Blog Crew is here to keep you updated. The Bulldogs started out strong and kept a strong grip on Toledo. Toledo, however, had a different idea in mind. It was a game of tug-of-war all the way to the last second. Ultimately, the Bulldogs went into overtime and held their own. . . mostly. Toledo almost scored once more but Ben Jacobs broke up the two-point conversion attempt which led to the Bulldog victory. For more detailed information, head to www.gobulldogs.com

Get out and volunteer!

index_banner.gif

Last Thursday our nation remembered the devastating loss that occurred on September 11, 2001. As a tribute to those that lost their lives on that day, a national campaign has been launched to remember the fallen, by doing positive works of service. Many Fresno State students contributed to the many local memorials. Fresno State students have many more opportunities to continue to help. To find out where you can serve, please visit www.volunteerfresno.org or call The Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning at 278-7079.
