The Richter Center Ambassadors challenge you to “Picture the Change”

On Wednesday, January 28, 2009 the Fresno State community will be issued a challenge by the Richter Center Ambassadors: a group of nine students dedicated to promoting and supporting a culture of service on campus.  The challenge is to picture the positive changes and impacts you can make in your community and then pledge to act on your vision.  The Picture the Change campaign will span the spring semester, providing Fresno State community members with an opportunity to document their pledge in order to share it and celebrate it with their fellow Bulldogs.

Zora Neale Hurston is considered one of the pre-eminent writers of 20th century African-American literature. Employing her own talent and scrappiness–Hurston became the most successful and most significant black woman writers of the first half of the 20th century. Over a career that spanned more than 30 years, she published four novels, two books of folklore, an autobiography, numerous short stories, and several essays, articles and plays. In this dramatic biography, Zora invites the audience into her exemplary life as a writer during the Harlem Renaissance.  The author of “Their Eyes Were Watching God.”

Check out our new Lacrosse team!

lacrossejpeg.jpgBe a part of history in the making!  The first ever lacrosse match will take place on Saturday, February 7th at 1 p.m. in the Bulldog Stadium as the ‘Dogs try to take a bite out of the California Bears.  As a first year program the Lacrosse team seems to be gathering a lot of attention quickly. Fresno State lacrosse coach, Sue Behme, has set up an exciting schedule for her team that will help prepare them for a long and successful sport in the years to come.

Add / Drop Deadlines

Last day to add/drop without permission is Tuesday, February 3.  This is also the last day the Wait List process will run.
Beginning Wednesday, February 4 through Wednesday, February 18 all adds will require a permission number.  Last day to add a class for the spring 09 semester is Wednesday, February 18.
Wednesday, February 4 through Wednesday, February 18 all drops will require the permission of the instructor using the Drop/Withdrawal form and submitted to the Admissions and Records service windows.  Drops submitted during this time frame do not have to be of serious and compelling reason and will not have a grade of “W” appear on the university transcript.
Beginning Thursday, February 19 through Tuesday, April 21 all drops must be of a serious and compelling reason and must have the approval of the instructor and the department chair on the Drop/Withdrawal form submitted to the Admissions and Records service windows.  Drops submitted during this time frame will have a “W” grade appear on the university transcript.

Women’s Basketball starts off the semester

REGISTRATION/TUITION FEE PAYMENT DEADLINE DATES

Registration/Tuition fee payment deadline for students who participate in Late Registration (January 17 - February 3) is Tuesday, February 3.  Students who do not pay by this deadline will have a hold placed on their registration and no further add activity will be allowed.  These students will officially get cancelled if they have not paid fees by Wednesday, February 18.

Registration/Tuition fee payment deadline for students who participate in Registration by Permission (February 4 - February 18) is Wednesday, February 18.  Students will be cancelled for non-payment of fees.

Entrepreneurial educator wins President’s Award

Dr. Timothy M. Stearns, a state and national figure in entrepreneurial education, received the 2009 President’s Award of Excellence at California State University , Fresno .

Stearns is the Coleman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies and executive director of the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fresno State . He was honored Jan. 20 at the Spring Assembly for faculty and staff. University Advisory Board chair Dr. Katherine Flores, a Fresno physician, and members James Shekoyan and Julie Tone presented the award.

On lucky Friday the 13th (of February) the contest will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Kennel Bookstore. You can sign up at the Kennel Bookstore Computer Department. Sign up now though! You can sign up today, but you only have until the 11th and the contest is limited to the first 50 teams. You must be a Fresno State Student with a valid Fresno State ID. Teams to Kiss an iPod the longest will win enviable iPods. The 1st Place team will win the iPod Classic 120 GB; 2nd Place will win the iPod Touch 8 GB; 3rd Place will win the iPod Nano 16 GB.

Men’s Basketball

The Men’s Basketball team is taking on Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. They then face Utah State on the 1st and our rivals, Boise State, on the 9th. Each game is at 7 p.m. at the Save Mart Center. Financial Aid now available!

fafsa.jpgIt’s time to file your 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  If you are planning on enrolling in 2009-10 and wish to receive federal or state financial aid, now is the time to apply.  You are encouraged to file as early as possible.  Applications filed by March 2 are given priority.  Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov for more information! Be sure to be prepared for the FAFSA process by applying for a PIN online, determining your dependency status ahead of time, and estimating your 2008 income information.

Welcome Back! Spring 09′ semester starts today!

We’ve made it through the holidays, and even got a new president - but now’s the time to ‘pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off’ and get back in the swing of things.

 What can we look forward to this semester?  For starters, many of you may be graduating. If you’re not one of those lucky ones yet, there’s obviously Vintage Days; The start of the Wonderdog’s baseball season; oh… and ofcourse spring time!  (Which means… spring break!)
