USU Productions is recruiting members to join its premiere hype squad. The Hype Squad, a subcommittee of USU Productions, is a group of students that volunteer and will help promote upcoming events planned by USU Productions. This weekend Associated Students, Inc. at Fresno State (ASI) hosted a meeting with all of the other Associated Students organization representatives from all 23 CSU campuses (what’s known as the California State Student Association).  Student leaders worked together plan ways of influencing State representatives to support affordable higher education and to stop making cuts to the CSU system. They also identified plans to work with the California Community Colleges and the University of California students to help fight cuts to higher education.

Students gathered together today to organize a walkout in support of access to a quality and affordable higher education.

Alice Cooper is coming to Fresno on Tuesday, October 27^th (same day as Slipknot) and putting on a show at the Saroyan Theater.  The show will start at 8 p.m. and tickets start at $39.75.  If you need more information, search for the show at www.ticketmaster.com.

Did you know that registration for Spring 2010 begins on November 2nd?   That is only a few weeks away! !  Do you know what classes to take?  An academic advisor can help you select classes that will count toward your degree.

If You have a Declared Major:  schedule an appointment with an advisor in your Academic Department.  Check with the department secretary if you have questions on how to see an advisor.

If You are Undeclared:  schedule an appointment with Advising Services.  Call 559-278-1787 or visit their office in Joyal, Room 224.

The city of Fresno is continuing its grinding and repaving work on Shaw Avenue between Highway 168 and Blackstone Avenue. Grinding will occur in the evening and paving during the day. Congestion and delays to Fresno State students, staff, faculty and visitors will occur. You may want to choose an alternative route to campus such as the Bullard or Ashlan interchanges from Highway 168 or Highway 41.

Any vehicles parked along eastbound Shaw this week are subject to being towed.  No one wants to deal with that headache, so make sure to move your car!

The USDA wants to give students interested in natural resources and the environment an opportunity to learn about student employment programs, internship programs and career options.  We all know that any help we as students can get in the job market arena is something to be greatly appreciative of.  The information session will be held in the University Business Center (in front of the Peters Building) room 191 on Thursday, October 22, from 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with pizza and refreshments provided.  So, if you are interested in the USDA, make sure to check it out!

Information Session: You are invited to listen to USDA-FS (Forest Service) and USDA-NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) representatives, as they will highlight student employment programs; such as the Summer Internship Program (SIP), Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP), Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), and Career Intern Program (CIP). Also, learn about the student sponsorship to attend NOPHNRCSE’s Annual Training Conference, and other available “natural resources and related fields of study” scholarships.  Don’t forget to bring your resume!

The USDA Mission Area of Natural Resources and Environment ensures the health of the land through sustainable management. Its agencies work to prevent damage to natural resources and the environment, restore the resource base, and promote good land management.

Overview: USDA-FS administers programs for applying sound conservation and utilization practices to natural resources of the national forests and national grasslands, for promoting these practices on all forest lands through cooperation with states and private landowners, and for carrying out extensive forest and range research.

Overview: USDA-NRCS is the primary federal agency that works with private landowners to help them conserve, maintain, and improve their natural resources. The Agency emphasizes voluntary science-based conservation, technical assistance, partnerships, incentive-based programs, and cooperative problem solving at the community level.

Are you stressed?  Well this might be the key to help you out.   A Fresno State instructor is sessions for students who are interested in reducing stress by using meditation practices.  They will be held every Monday, so if you are not able to make it next week, do not stress!
