USU Productions has a jam-packed March full of fun events for students.  Some of the events include the showing of The Blind Side, a lecture from Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Spring Break Extravaganza and the Classic Men’s Soccer Tournament.

 The Blind Side will be showing on Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union.  The admission is $4 for the general public and $2 for Fresno State students with a valid ID.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Visiting Scholars Committee at Fresno State is bringing best-selling author, scholar and cultural critic to the Satellite Student Union on Sunday, March 14.  He will begin his lecture at 7 p.m.  This event is being jointly sponsored by USU Productions and ASI.  It is free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, March 17, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., there will be games, prizes and giveaways on the lawn in front of the bookstore.  There will be music provided by DJ Nayte, a Community Service Opportunities Fair and a Fun in Fresno Fair.  Make sure you come to get a chance to win a free spring break trip.

USU Productions is holding their Classic Men’s Soccer Tournament on Saturday, March 20, at 8 a.m. on the South Gym Field.  If you are interested in registering your team, make sure to do it by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 18.

California State Students Association (CSSA) is organizing a March for Higher Education that all students from the CSU system are encouraged to participate in.  Fresno State’s ASI is helping to lead the change!  On Monday, March 22, 2010, all students participating in the march will meet at Raley Field in Sacramento between 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.  At 10 a.m. the march will start as students travel from Raley Field to the State Capitol.  From 11 a.m. - noon there will be a rally of students on the north steps of the building.  This is going to be an amazing day that is sure to make history and start to change the way the state handles higher education funds.

Fresno State’s ASI is going to be providing transportation and meals to those who are interested in going.  There is a limit on the number of students we can bring because of the size of the bus.  If you want to be on the bus and begin making a difference for higher education, you need to pick up an application from USU 317 and return it by Monday, March 8.

USU Recreation Center, located downstairs in the University Student Union.  There’s bowling, billiards, and video games to enjoy.

This semester the bowling alley has a really great student special for bowling.  2 games of bowling, including shoes for $3.  This special is available Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. - noon. Regular price for students to bowl, is $2.00 per game plus $1.25 for shoes.

Also, play billiards for $4.25 per hour or XBOX for $3.50 per hour.

This local relief includes emergency food, on site response, temporary shelter, CPR & First aid training and military communications. In addition to local aid, our local Red Cross chapter has raised money for disasters in other parts of the world, including the recent earthquake in Haiti.   Our local chapter needs help now to continue supporting those in our community who have experienced some type of emergency.  All money raised during the Save a Family campaign will stay in our community. Individual students, clubs and organizations are being asked to donate time to collect funds during the Save A Family event on either Thursday, February 25 or Thursday, March 4^th.  All volunteers will receive a pre-event orientation, free t-shirt and if they volunteer on March 4^th free admission to the men’s basketball game at the Save Mart Center. For more information and to register please contact the Fresno Madera Chapter of the American Red Cross at 559-455-1000 or email dana@fresnomaderaredcross.org.

The California State University Board of Trustees is the policy-making body for the 23 campuses and the 450, 000 students of the CSU system.  The 25-member Board of Trustees includes two Student Trustees who serve staggered two-year terms.  Each year, the California State Student Association conducts a search for the next Student Trustee, who is ultimately appointed by the Governor.

If you are:

-A passionate advocate for CSU students

-Knowledgeable about CSU issues

-At least a junior by July 1, 2010 and will be a student until June 30, 2012

-The holder of at least a 2.0 GPA

If you can attend:

-All Board of Trustees meetings and committee meetings

-All CSSA monthly meetings

 Then you should apply! If you want the application, please visit www.csustudents.org.  All applications must be received by April 9, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

If you would like to run for an office in the upcoming ASI election, you need to make sure to fill out an application and pick up a petition.  They are due by Mon., Feb 22, in room 306 of the University Student Union. 

 The process is quite simple.  Just some paperwork and signatures and you are good to go.  You must fill out a candidate information sheet, candidate petition form, verification form and get 75 signatures.  The elections are March 23-25, so make sure you get all the right info turned in!

A live theatrical performance titled: “Playing the Game” will be showing for all CSUF students on February 16, 2010 at 11:00 am. Your organizations are being asked to participate in a special performance later that day.

All student organizations, athletic groups and Greek chapters are encouraged to attend the event at the Satellite Student Union that evening. Two separate showing are being provided and are gender specific.

Men Only:                    Tuesday February 16^th @ 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Women Only:               Tuesday February 16^th @ 7:30 – 9:00 pm

“Playing the Game” is a Sexual Assault Prevention Theater Performance and is part of a research project on campus. The purpose of this performance is to take an in depth look at the attitudes and behaviors of students in order to reduce the prevalence of sexual assault at Fresno State.

This is an important issue to all students on campus and we are asking student organizations, athletic groups and Greek chapters to commit their organization to participate in the event. 

The event will allow students to convey their attitudes and beliefs about dating practices and is intended to dispel myths and misperceptions associated with date rape. Education materials will be provided to all students at the end of the performance.

Kid’s Day is one of the valley’s largest and most visible special events to benefit Children’s Hospital Central California.  Thousands of volunteers throughout the valley help by selling a special “Kid’s Day” edition of the Fresno Bee for $1.  Last year over 1,000 Fresno State students, faculty and staff helped to do their part by raising over $29,000! Since its beginning, Kids Day has raised over $2 million for Children’s Hospital Central California.

Please join us to once again help the children and families that are served by Children’s Hospital Central California. faculty, students and staff can help in three ways: (1) volunteer to sell papers, (2) help recruit other volunteers by sharing information on this event with friends, students and colleagues and (3) buy the papers from those around campus!
